7MB draws to a close

To all 7MB Students

Mrs Mc and Mrs B would like to thank each and everyone of you for your involvement in our class. We have thoroughly enjoyed this year with you and we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year. Our time with you is drawing to a close but we hope to see you at different stages in your lives being updated on your successes at high school and beyond.

We see many talents within you all. These talents range from budding artists or authors and illustrators, veterinarians, teachers, tradespeople, actors/actresses and lawyers.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their support during 2007. We realise this may be your final year at SJV and wish you every happiness at your new high schools. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness the growth in your child and we say thank you.

International Peace Day 2007 @ SJV

On Monday the 17th, the Justice Team was invited to celebrate the International Day of Peace. (Which is actually on this Friday the 21st) It was interesting to watch all the different religious groups perform peace songs and dances.

This Friday on the 21st, many schools will be celebrating the International Peace Day for 2007. The Justice Team has been very busy in preparation for this special day. We have been preparing a special gift for each class. It contains two symbols (A Peace candle and stone) which will be placed on the prayer table in each classroom. Each student will read a peace prayer that they've been given.

Doves have been placed around the school as a sign of peace. Each individual Dove contains prayers of hope.

Term 3

For Four weeks we got into groups and built Antarctic houses designed and built by us. We had to follow a certain criteria and had to make sure that it was efficient yet safe for the people living inside.
By Jamie!!!

The Antarctic Unit that we had in class was really cool. I liked dressing up in the big jumper for our oral and when we made our house it was fun too! It was interesting when the man who went to Antarctica came in to talk about his expedition, we got to see all the clothing that he had to wear while on his expedition!
By Caitlin!!!

This term we have learnt about Antarctica. We all had to act as an Antarctic explorer and we got to dress up in beanies and warm jumpers too! This term we also had to work as a group to make a model of a house that we could live in at Antarctica. It has been a great term.

This term we learnt about Antarctica and its surroundings it was very very enjoyable. I would like to learn more about it but it's our last term next term and I always like to try something different. Jane:.)

7MB Art

During the course of this term the students have been working towards a role play oral presentation.

Each student had to orally discuss their chosen Antarctic explorer. They had to dress up and present an innovative oral in the first person acting as their explorer. A bit of a challenge but they were up to the task. You can see by the photos they really took to the task and put in a lot of effort.
Also during this term we have created Antarctic landscapes using water colours and only one or two colours were used. The students had to use shading techniques to gain 3D visualisations.
We have also been improving on our writing and researching skills for homework and all students have made dramatic progress. It has been a big learning curve for some and the students have had to manage their time very wisely to ensure that their home and school based assignments are in on time.

We have recently completed our Religious Education assignment based on designing a Church for a particular community. They had to create and explain the cultural and historical influences that formed their designs. Again some very creative and well informed designs.

It has been a wonderful and awe inspiring term and the students in 7MB have come a very long way since the first day I met them all and began forming 7MB.

May I take this opportunity to thank each and every family for their ongoing support. It is greatly appreciated by the teacher and your children. We couldn’t do it without you.

I know that I will need some assistance next term as this, once again, is a gigantic and rewarding term. Any assistance by parents will be embraced next term to form our final farewell of the Year 7 students of 2007.

If you can help please let me know and I will collect volunteers’ names now to assist with Graduation.

Antarctic Science

During this term students have been creating amazing models of buildings able to withstand the elements in Antarctica. Each model shows crucial elements of insulation and design techniques such as using various colours of buildings to absorb the sun’s rays, triple layered glass to keep out the cold, heating elements under the floor, wind turbines and materials that would withstand wind and rust. These are just a few of the ideas your children came up with.

The photos to the left don’t do their hard work justice.

To accompany these group masterpieces students wrote an individual report on the crucial elements within their model designs. I must say it was very impressive.
